The following post documents my progress with my Sketchup models. I found the process rather lengthy and time consuming, yet made enjoyable by the spontaneity I was able to express in the program and in my sketches. I thoroughly enjoyed the continuous experimentation and development of skill I underwent, and found it most satisfying to watch my model evolve into what it is now.
First draft model:
I invested a fair amount of time into this... And was admittedly disappointed to throw it away. The problem was, I realized, after seeing sample students work, it looked far too much like a house.
However, it was vital in allowing me to get the hang of Sketchup, and so was not completely futile.
After discarding my original Sketchup model I began this... It started as an accident, as when I was trying to use the Smoove tool on terrain, and accidently used it on my model, and decided it was interesting. For some reason, at least for me, it evokes a strong organic feel, yet somehow Gothic. I call it "organic gothic". Maybe it would be blasphemous to liken this to Gaudi's work?
Probably.
But that's what I'm beginning to think along the lines of.
Probably a crime for a first year to liken his own work to that of a masters.
In fact I'm feeling worse the longer I do this.
But hey, he's one of my influences.
